Yolande Alma Gottlieb

Yolande Gottlieb, age 84, passed on Saturday, May 16, 2020 during her sleep in Webster, Texas.  She suffered a lingering series of illnesses that kept her from enjoying her life with her husband, children and grandchildren for the last year, and we find comfort in the thought that she is no longer suffering and is at peace. She was born July 29, 1935 in Mahon, Spain to the late Manuel Gonzalez Linares and Carmen Nieto Nibot. At the age of 1 year and 8 months, she and her parents lived in Cuba until she was 14 years old and entered the United States in 1949 where she spent most of her growing up years in New York, NY. There she worked as a secretary in the security section of the United Nations.  She met and married her devoted husband, a former Marine, Daniel Gottlieb and enjoyed her life making a home for them and their family.  They were married 55 years, and raised her son from a previous marriage, Lewis Gottlieb, and their three children, Debra, Paul and Joshua Gottlieb. Aside from her parents, she is predeceased by her beloved daughter Debra Raphaella Hensley. In 1974, they became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints. She was very active in missionary work, Sunday School President, and was a Scout Master.  She loved to write poetry, was a published poet, established a poetry club where some of the notable poets in Houston would speak, and she published an Art-Poetry magazine.  She had many hobbies that included making ceramics, wrote a cookbook was a sculpturer and won First Place and a Scholarship to the Academy of Fine Arts, N.Y. for her sculpted bust entitled “Congo.” She was dedicated to her husband and her children, and was always a source for guidance in their times of stress or need.  Yolande and Daniel lived a comfortable and full life raising their children and ensured that they dedicated their lives to family, healthy living, and a commitment to their religious beliefs.  She thoroughly enjoyed time with her family, laughing and always wearing a smile on her face.  She was a very kind, and caring person, devoted wife, mother and someone who thought of others first.  If you knew her, you loved her. Yolande is survived by her spouse of 55 years, Daniel, sons Lewis Gottlieb, Paul Gottlieb, Joshua Gottlieb, and Curtis Hensley.  Grandchildren include Kenneth Gottlieb Kristen Gottlieb, Shannon Hensley, Jesse Hensley, Noah Gottlieb, Hannah Gottlieb, and Meredith Gottlieb, daughter-in-law Leann Gottlieb, step grandchildren Daniel Black, Brendon Black, Landon Black, Kendra Healy, and numerous great-grandchildren. Because of the restrictions imposed as a result of COVID-19, there will only be a graveside service for family and close friends on May 21, 2020 at 10 o’clock at Tranquility Oaks Cemetery, 22302 Hildebrandt Road, Spring, Texas 77389.  Following the graveside service, a reception for family and friends will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints located at 4655 South Shore Blvd., League City, TX  77573.  In lieu of flowers, the family request that you please donate to https://philanthropieschurchofjesuechrist.org/humanitarian-services in her honor.
