Sommer Renee Wells

On Thursday, August 6, 2020, Sommer Renee Wells, a loving wife and devoted mother of two, passed away at the age of 44.

Sommer was born on August 23, 1975 in Columbus, Ohio to Danny and Brenda (Crabtree) Humphries.  She was a 1999 graduate of The Ohio State University, and upon graduation, she began her career as an Occupational Therapist in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.  She also worked for Easter Seals of Greater Houston in the Early Childhood Intervention program. Sommer married her friend and love of her life, James H. Wells, Jr. on June 28, 2003.  They have two children, Ian and Sydney Wells.

Sommer had a passion for her work in providing therapy to pediatric patients, and she adored and loved watching those patients build new skills. Sommer was also dedicated to her children, Ian and Sydney, as they were her pride and joy.  Sommer will be remembered for her beautiful soul, and for having a smile that could light up any room.  She was a devout Christian who enjoyed attending services at The Ark Church in Conroe, TX.

Sommer is survived by her husband, Jamie; two children, Ian and Sydney Wells; father, Danny (Susan) Humphries; mother, Brenda Arrington; brother, Todd (Heather) Humphries; father-in-law, James Wells; mother-in-law, Connie Dorn; several cousins, nieces, and a nephew.

A Celebration of Life will be held on a later date, when restrictions ease, and all family and friends can be together.  The family asks that, in lieu of flowers or monetary donations, that you give blood or platelets at your nearest blood bank to commemorate Sommer.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Parents are not supposed to outlive their children, and I can only imagine the pain. I’m here for you two if I can help in any way.

I loved Sommer’s style. Calm, patient, intentional, confident, and what ever she did, she did with integrity. That’s how I always saw her. I’m blessed to have known her.

My first memory of Sommer was at your A frame house Dan & Susan. The unconditional love I saw the two of you and her mom pour into her had everything to do with the sweet, selfless daughter and mother she became. My heart aches for all of you , sending you all my love.

Beautiful, intelligent, funny and sweet are all apt descriptions of Sommer. She is someone any of us would love to have as a daughter. This is due, in no small part, to the love, commitment and compassion given to her by Susan and Danny. Our hearts go out to you.

Dan and Susan, I know that Sommer was one of the brightest lights of your lives. I hope you find some measure of comfort knowing that so many people loved and cared for Sommer and she won’t be forgotten. Thinking of all of you and sending love and prayers.
