Sheriff Lancelot Chin

January 11, 1945 — September 5, 2025

Sheriff Lancelot Chin, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025, in The Woodlands, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.

Sheriff was born on January 11, 1945, in the quiet village of Anna Caterina, on the West Bank of Demerara in Guyana. His early years were shaped by the move his mother made with the family to East Ruimveldt in Georgetown, where Sheriff attended Trinity Methodist School. Those formative days built in him resilience, adaptability, and a deep appreciation for community spirit.

A devout Catholic, Sheriff lived his life guided by values of faith, family and service. Yet he was also vibrant, full of humor and warmth, and known for living life on his own terms. He built connections everywhere he went, whether with neighbors in Georgetown or friends he met along his journey. He always made time for a conversation, a smile, or a helping hand.

Sheriff wore many hats in his professional life. Always entrepreneurial, Sheriff ran a small neighborhood variety store with pride. He was well-known in the Stabroek Market, where his presence and personality left a lasting mark.

He was deeply committed to his family. Sheriff is survived by his devoted wife, Veronica Chin, his children Lancelot, Michelle, Godfrey and David, and their spouses Karen, Hensley, and Heather Chin. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Oriel, Olivia, Anthony, Shaquana, Kiyn, Jessica, Kenny, Azalia, and Austen, and his great-grandchildren Diane, Anita, CJ, Anaya, Chance, and Sarah.

Sheriff was a brother to Rosalind Viuff, Carmen Maloney, Francis Chin, Samuel Chin, Errol Chin, and the late Basil Chin. He was also an uncle to many, including Shivon, Shawn, Sharon, Andrew, Keith, Kurt, Conrad, Karen, Diego, Subrina, and others who loved him dearly.

Though we mourn his passing, we celebrate the fullness of his 80 years. Sheriff lived a life that mattered, not just to those closest to him, but to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory lives on in the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
