Sergeant Gwendolyn Marie "Penny" Madison

Sergeant Gwendolyn Marie “Penny” Madison, 62, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 surrounded by family at Vitas Hospice in Shenandoah, TX. Sergeant Madison served honorably in the United States Army from January 1975- January 1987 and was a member of the time-honored W.A.C.- Women Army Corps. She served two tours overseas in support of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization with duty stations in Izmir, Turkey and Brussels, Belgium. She received numerous awards for her faithful service, which includes the Meritorious Service Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. Sergeant Madison was proceeded in death by her parents Abraham and Thelma Nesbit, and sister Emma “Kit” Nesbit-Lenzy. She is survived by her son Brandon and his wife Jami, two daughters Donae and Alesha, and three grandchildren Adriane, Cameron, and Damien. A memorial service will take place at Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Prichard, AL on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 1:00 pm.
