Meredith Johnson LeBlanc

June 16, 1971 — December 28, 2023

Houston

Meredith Johnson Le Blanc, a lifelong native of Houston, was called home to the Lord on December 28th, 2023 at age 52. Meredith was born June 16th, 1971, the youngest child of David and Donna Johnson. Meredith was a graduate of her beloved Louisiana State University and a loyal member of Fair Haven UMC. She enjoyed traveling, musical theater, reality television, spending time with friends and family, and joking with (or embarrassing) her three boys. Meredith is survived by her father, David Johnson, her three cherished sons: Tyler, Blake, and Kyle, their father Mitch Le Blanc, brother Kurt Johnson (wife, Amy), sister Dee Dee Malachowski (husband, Jim), and fiance Kevin Duff.

From an early age, it was clear that Meredith was a gifted virtuoso. She could listen to songs and play the notes effortlessly on the piano without sheet music. Years of piano lessons and singing in church and school choirs would follow. A 1989 graduate of Spring Woods High School, Meredith received a full academic scholarship to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where she earned a degree in Music Education

After her college graduation, Meredith returned to Houston and began her career as a music educator in Alief ISD. Soon thereafter, she transferred to Spring Branch ISD where she would teach for the remainder of her 17-year career. She often recounted how much she enjoyed working with young children and she used her teaching prowess to lead music during Vacation Bible School in the Summer. Throughout her years as a music educator, Meredith directed multiple school performances. She would let her creativity run wild while creating elaborate set-dressings, costumes, props, and choreography for the kids. Many students have reconnected years later and commented on how much they remembered her instruction and enjoyed their time in her classroom. Her colleagues at Sherwood Elementary would elect her as Teacher of the Year in 2011.

Family was an important cornerstone to Meredith. She never missed a chance to support, encourage and praise the achievements of not only her beloved sons but also her local nieces. She could always be found in the stands, bleachers, auditorium seats, or sanctuary pews cheering and applauding enthusiastically. In recent years she particularly enjoyed accompanying her fiancé Kevin on his frequent travels for work and doting over her two dogs: Dixie and Nala.

In 2011 a few days after her 40th birthday, Meredith suffered a stroke leaving her with a partial visual impairment, epilepsy, and multiple other medical issues. This affliction sadly forced her into an early retirement. The road to recovery was long and arduous, but the 12 years following her stroke were full of memories of laughter, smiles, and the occasional self-deprecation. Despite her disabilities, Meredith’s light never went out and she counted her blessings daily; maintaining her steadfast Christian faith. Friends and family will remember her for her infectious laughter, bright smile, and witty humor. Her love and companionship will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.
