[wds id="13"]Marilyn Darlene Lewis (born Rogers), AKA Marilyn Woodring, of Houston, Texas passed away on October 17, 2018 at the age of 91. She was born on February 16, 1927 in Winnsboro, Texas to Jesse Leith Rogers and Ollie Jane Kandall. She married Cecil Walter Lewis on July 27, 1946 in Houston. They had one son together, Russell Wayne Lewis, who later passed away October 22, 2015 at the age of 68. During her life, Marilyn worked as a secretary, a homemaker, and a telephone operator. Standing at 4’11, she was denied the long distance phone operator position because she simply couldn’t reach the New York switch. It never stopped her from reaching. Marilyn was a joyful and kind soul with an extra sharp mind. She was always singing ditties from the past and could recall any name or experience, whether for a friend or stranger. Her great-grandchildren were delighted with her, and she could stop tantrums in their tracks by striking up a song. She loved to smile and have a great time, often creating her own joy with her singing and cheerful attitude. Her favorite pastimes included playing cards, going crabbing in Galveston Bay, and conducting a great conversation. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Rogers and Ollie Kandall; her husband, Cecil Lewis; her son, Russell Lewis; and her sister, J Ruth Pride. She is survived by her niece, Susan Pride; nephew, Roger Smith; former daughter in law, Doris Lewis; her two grandsons, Jonathan Lewis and wife Haley, and Trevor Lewis and wife Andrea; and four great grandchildren: Liam, Everson, Hannah, Bradley-Grace, and another great-grandchild on the way.
