Jose “Joe” Armando Alvarado was born in Edinburg, Texas on September 10, 1960, son of Jose Luis and Manuela Alvarado, and was called home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at the age of 64, a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.
He married his high school sweetheart and they were married for 46 loving years. His primary purpose and joy were his family. He worked hard to ensure his sons received the education they deserved. He was a man of strong conviction and lived his life according to God’s word. He was lovingly known to all as “Bear”, because he was tough as a grizzly, but also gentle as a teddy bear. He truly cared for his fellow man, and to have him as a friend meant you had a friend for life. His presence demanded respect the moment he walked into the room, yet he had the touch and assurance of a saint. His best times were any opportunity to enjoy time with his family and friends. Whether it was a BBQ, sports event, beach trip, or family gathering, he could always be seen with a smile and ready to give a big bear hug.
He proudly served the people of Harris County as a Deputy Sheriff for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for over 33 years and retired on September 30, 2015. He served several terms as President for the Mexican American Sheriff’s Organization from 1998 to his passing, diligently working to ensure the rights and equality of Latinos within the Department. He served as a board member of CLEAT (Collective Law Enforcement Agencies of Texas) for two years. He
He is survived by his loving wife, Rachel Alvarado, his sons Armando Aramis and wife Cecelia, Adam Riley and wife Anita, Andrew Marco and wife Erika, his grandchildren Ava Aurora, Danielle Estrella, Marco Canelo, Esai Leandro, Armando Aramis Jr., and Vayda Marigold.
