Joe Guerra, Jr.

January 23, 1943 — July 12, 2025

Houston

Jose (Joe) Oscar Guerra Jr., 82, of Houston, Texas, passed away on July 12, 2025, to reunite with the love of his life, Paz. Joe was born January 23, 1943, in Falfurrias, Texas, to the late Jose Oscar Guerra Sr. and Alicia Irene (Perez) Guerra.

Joe is survived by his children, Christopher Jon Guerra (Donna) and Larissa Nicole Guerra; granddaughters, Mia Eleabeth Guerra and Abigail Guerra Hall. He is also survived by his siblings, H.R. Daniel Guerra (Cynthia), Charles G. Guerra, and Camille C. Guerra Factor (Ron).

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Paz Alamia Guerra.

Joe graduated from Texas A&M University class of 1966 and continued to support his alma mater by contributing to The Association of Former Students. He was a proud Aggie and always did a thumbs up and said Gig' Em every chance he had, even to his fellow Longhorn friends and family.

During his time at Texas A&M, he married the love of his life, Paz. They shared a love for Aggie football games and enjoyed traveling together to Italy and France.

Joe had many hobbies, and when he was into something, he was fully committed. He was an avid tennis player, loved photography, and delved deeply into his and Paz's family genealogy. He also enjoyed hunting with his uncles and friends. If you knew him, you always heard his stories, and he certainly had a lot to share. Of all his passions, nothing surpassed the love he had for his wife, children, and granddaughters. He was at every halftime show, dance recital, baseball game, drill team competition, band concert, FFA show, and graduation. Everyone who knew Joe felt the depth of his love for his kids and granddaughters.

Joe was an owner of Olsen & Guerra Lumber Company and was well respected in the industry. He was an honest and hardworking man and carried on his father's legacy proudly. He went into the office each day, made a few calls to customers, and spent the rest of the day sharing stories on Facebook and reconnecting with loved ones.

The family would like to thank the many healthcare providers who advocated for him and pushed him to keep fighting. There were many, but we would like to recognize Dr. Carlos Meheux, Dr. Shayan Izaddoost, Dr. Renato Rodriguez, Dr. Susan Burgert, Dr. Kausar Mukhi, & Kristin Beck PT, DPT, MS, CWS.
