Georgia Valentine Nichols Williams, 80, a much-loved woman of faith, an artist, minister to children, wife, and mother passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, in Houston, Texas, after courageously and privately battling a series of illnesses. Georgia was motivated by her life of faith, by her passion to help others, and by her desire to bring beauty to the world through her creativity. Having spent nearly fifty-seven years married to Herb Williams, they have been constant in their devotion to each other and steadfast in their shared faith and passion to serve their Lord through serving others.
On February 14, 1945, in West Palm Beach, Florida, Georgia Valentine was born to George and Frances Nichols. Everyone who knew Georgia would agree that she was named appropriately—not just because of her entrance into this world on Valentine’s Day, but because of her gentle, humble, and loving nature. Georgia graduated from Lauderdale High School and attended Tarrant County Junior College.
Early in their marriage after Herb graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, with a Masters of Divinity, Georgia and Herb felt a call to minister to orphaned and homeless children. They fostered two children prior to serving seven years at the Baptist Children’s Home in Thomasville, North Carolina. From 1980 – 1999, they lived in Albany, Georgia, where Georgia served as financial secretary for a church and then an office manager for Leeland Farms. Still feeling the call to minister to children after raising their three children, they moved to Tallahassee, Florida where Herb served as Resident Director of the Florida Baptist Children’s Home. Georgia happily served the children and the resident staff while there, often filling in to relieve house-parents for much-needed time off.
Gifted with creativity, Georgia expressed her love for beauty and God’s creation as a lifelong artist and later a book illustrator. That creativity extended to sewing, even to making her own wedding gown and her bridesmaids’ dresses. And she dressed her two daughters beautifully as she made formal gowns for them for special occasions. Georgia loved flowers and enjoyed taking care of her orchids.
Georgia cherished family gatherings especially at holiday times, and she was always up for a good card game with her family. She was a gift giver with a sense of humor, often creating a scavenger hunt that often left family members having to contend with the excessive duct tape.
It was Georgia’s joy to bless her family, friends, doctors, and medical staff with gifts of her beautiful art. She consciously made every effort to share her faith and bless everyone she met. She would often strike up a conversation with patients and staff in her doctors’ offices and end up praying for them. The joy of her Lord radiated from her and attracted people to her as her generosity stretched to everyone she met.
Georgia was predeceased by her parents, George and Frances Nichols. In addition to her cherished husband, Herb, other survivors include daughter Terri Short and husband Paul in Spring Texas, Charles Williams and his wife Renee in Richmond Hill, Georgia, and Stacey Bradley and husband Doug in Albany, Georgia. Also surviving are three siblings: Louise Geiger (Ron) in Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Bill Nichols (Phyllis) in Boerne, Texas, and Frank Nichols (Sharon) in Florida. Georgia also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Andrew Short and Luke Short in Spring, Texas; Kaitlyn Bradley Eddings (Darren) in Colorado Springs, CO; Sarah Bradley in Valdosta, GA; Jake Bradley and Charlie Bradley in Albany, Georgia; Olivia and Sofia Williams in Richmond Hill, Georgia. She also leaves many friends and extended family whose lives were better for having been loved by Georgia.
A Service to Celebrate Georgia’s Life and to honor her Lord will be held at a time yet to be announced. It is the wish of the family that in lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to the Fusion Church at 5824 Louetta Road, Spring, TX.
