In Loving Memory of Ed Whaley
Ed Whaley, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026. He was born on September 26, 1949, in Gloster, Louisiana, to Ronnie and Frank Whaley. He was baptized at an early age in Gloster and graduated from Second Ward High School. After graduation, Ed moved to Houston with his mother and began working at Nabisco. He later enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served his country as a vehicle operator during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he married Carrie Bell Carson, and together they were blessed with two children, Demitrice Moore (Whaley) and Cornelius Whaley, both of Houston, Texas. Ed dedicated 29 years of faithful service to Nabisco before retiring. He enjoyed lifting weights, cycling, fishing, and spending time outdoors with his children. He especially loved activities that brought family together. A devoted man of faith, Ed loved the Lord deeply. Later in adulthood, he chose to be baptized again while attending South Union Church of Christ, where he faithfully attended services. Psalm 23 was his favorite scripture, and he could recite it from memory. Ed deeply loved his family and cherished visiting relatives, sometimes even riding his bicycle to spend time with them. His kindness, strength, faith, and love for family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter, Demitrice (Philip), his son, Cornelius Whaley; his grandchild, Oscar Berry Johnson IV; one sister, Cynthia, and two brothers, Roy (Juanita) and Johnny Ray (Zedra). He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronnie and Frank Whaley.
