Alan Randolph Bright

Oct 22, 1946 — Jun 15, 2026

Jersey Village

Alan Randolph Bright, age 79, passed away on June 15, 2026, in Fresno, California doing what he loved, working. He was born on October 22, 1946, in Kingsport, Tennessee, and spent much of his life in Houston, Texas, where he built a loving home and lasting legacy.

Alan was a man of deep and abiding faith who loved Jesus above all else. He made it his mission to share that love with everyone he met, never knowing a stranger and always greeting others with warmth and kindness and an invitation to church on Sunday. His joyful spirit was often expressed through his silly jokes and loud laugh that stirred all the way from the depths of his belly.

A proud graduate of Tennessee Military Institute (Class of 1964), Alan went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1971. He was stationed aboard the ballistic missile submarine USS Henry Clay (SSBN-625) and ended his enlistment with the rank of RM2(SS) Radioman.

Following his military service, Alan found his calling in the trucking industry. Known on the road by his handle “Bright Light,” he truly lived up to that name. Through hard work, determination, and integrity, he grew from a single truck owner into a successful small fleet owner and operator.

Alan was a devoted husband and father who took immense pride in his family. He and his wife, Tammy, made their home in Houston, Texas, where they raised their beautiful family of four. After losing Tammy to cancer in 1998, Alan held onto his strong faith and the hope of one day being reunited with her in heaven—a hope now fulfilled.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and mother of his children, Tammy Bright; his mother, Juanita Bright; his father, J. L. (John Leslie) Vineyard; his stepfather, G. S. (General Sullivan) Bright; and his spouse Linda Bright.

Alan is survived by his loving children: son Gerold Bright (wife Nicole Rapanos) and daughter Cheryl White (husband Alex White). He was a proud grandfather to Madison Bright, Brooklynn White, and Aubrey White, whom he cherished deeply. He is also survived by his sister, Hope Kerrigan; his nephew, Randy Havens; and his nieces, Debbie Havens and Cindi Havens.

Alan Randolph Bright will be remembered as a man of unwavering faith, boundless kindness, and a shining BRIGHT light to all who knew him.
